Almost a year ago, Chevrolet set out on a mission to build an all-electric vehicle to compete in the ever-growing EV marketplace. This week, the bowtie brand unveiled the completed model of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. Though the color changed from orange to silver, the idea still remains: offer an all-electric vehicle for all consumers.
“It was less than a year ago that we revealed the Bolt EV concept and promised to deliver a long-range electric vehicle attainable by the masses,” GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra said. “The Bolt EV is capable of using the latest mobile app technology to enable car sharing, advanced GPS routing and gamification, all designed to enhance the ownership experience now and into the future.”
Debuting officially at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, the Bolt takes cues from its hybrid Volt cousin and from suggestions of Volt owners across America. These new technologies make the Chevy Bolt easier to own as a long-range electric vehicle.
More accurate driving range projections can be given based on the time of day and weather. The lower-energy Bluetooth is specially designed for the Chevy Bolt and can connect a smartphone as you approach the vehicle. And, of course, the available 4G LTE Wi-fi, a staple of many new Chevrolets, can turn the Bolt into a mobile hotspot.
The new MyChevrolet Mobile App gives Bolt owners important information such as:
—Vehicle charge status
—OnStar Map service
—Remote start
—Cabin pre-conditioning
—Owner’s manual information
—Dealer service scheduling
