As the hustle and bustle of the holidays can tend to turn into the blustery grind of January here at Jim Butler Chevrolet of St Louis, there are still many “bright spots” of news regarding future models. The GM Authority blogging crew served up some details about the 2025 Chevy Equinox this past week, as the exciting introduction of the crossover’s latest fourth generation is coming soon. Drivers can look forward to a new exterior, new styling, and broader measurements for improved appeal.
The 2025 model’s wheelbase is .2 inches longer, resulting in an overall length that is up by .1 inches. The biggest changes are in the overall width and height, with the upcoming model seeing an extra 2.3 inches in width, and 2.1 inches in height compared to the 2024 model. While General Motors has not yet formally debuted the 2025 Chevy Equinox, there is still a fair amount of information that has been discovered about the coming crossover. A series of leaked photos last year clued industry professionals into the all-new styling and larger exterior dimensions.
Other updates regarding the styling changes include Chevy’s latest signature ICE-based lighting fixtures, with a two-tier “highbrow” layout like the Chevy Traverse and Chevy Blazer. The complete design overhaul results in a bit more rugged appearance, with the cabin space seeing several significant changes as well. Here drivers will benefit from brand-new digital gauges, a larger infotainment screen, and the very innovative GM Super Cruise driver assist system. The Next-Generation Equinox is expected to have notable changes in the powertrain department: a new, smaller-displacement engine with turbocharged aspiration, likely paired with a nine-speed automatic.
Front-wheel drive is expected to be standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. The bones of this anticipated and budget-friendly crossover will likely ride on an updated variant of the GM D2 platform. The D2 was engineered to be very modular and extremely lightweight, while offering segment-leading driving dynamics. The new Equinox is projected to be completed at the production line this coming May, as GM Authority had officially reported last June. Motor Trend reported late this summer that new wheel styles are also expected across the range, from LS to RS trims.
As consumers are getting their hopes up on technology features, larger touchscreens have been at the top of their wish lists for the past 3 years straight! The 7.0-inch touchscreens that manned control duty on the 2024 model will already exist as “past tense”, while most 2025 Equinox trims are expected to have larger displays of at least 11 inches. When this very sought-after addition is paired with a fully digital 8.0-inch gauge cluster, the cabin is going to make a smashing first impression. Originally introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year, the Equinox was envisioned as the capable replacement of the Tracker and S-10 Blazer.
Chevy vehicles win awards for satisfaction, quality, and safety every single year. The Edmunds auto review team praised the 2023-year model for its generous rear legroom, user-friendly infotainment setup, and additional features included in the Driver Confidence III Package. New for this year was the “E-Boost” brake system, which employs electronic systems instead of traditional vacuum power. The LS trim Level is now also available with the Midnight and Sport editions. The Equinox has a maximum total rating of 3500 lbs, while power is derived from a 1.5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque.
