Impala Scores NHTSA's Highest Possible Rating

There are plenty of ways you can become a better, safer driver -- taking safety classes, avoiding distractions behind the wheel, practicing good car maintenance -- but there also are many modern tools at your disposal within your Chevrolet Impala itself.

The 2014 Impala has a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety, NHTSA’s highest possible rating. One of the reasons for the rating is the Impala's advanced safety package, which includes extra eyes -- radar sensors, that is -- to help you look at your surroundings from all angles. Forward Collision Alert identifies vehicles ahead and alerts the driver to any potential
crash risk, while Rear Cross-Traffic Alert lets the driver know about traffic crossing from behind while the vehicle is in reverse.

The same sensors keep the vehicle's blind spots from being so, well, blind. The Side Blind Zone Alert illuminates small LED-lit symbols in the outside mirror when another vehicle is detected. And if you drift out of your lane without using a turn signal, Impala will give you a light scolding in the form of an audible alert; Lane Departure Warning doesn't mess around!

Sometimes preventative measures aren't enough, so Impala is ready with post-collision features, such as a strong, stiff body of high-strength steel, ten standard air bags, OnStar availability and GPS technology that can send help directly to your location.
