Chevrolet Models Rank in Top 2 Spots for Google’s Most Searched of 2015

Two other Chevrolet models crack Top 10 as Chevrolet is most searched car brand of the year

For Chevrolet, 2015 was a whirlwind year. Not only did the popularity rise and awards flood in including a sweep of Motor Trend’s vehicles of the year awards, but Chevy was the highest searched automotive brand of the year on Google.

Google trends released its search results for 2015 in every category from automotive to sports, from politics to questions about dogs. In the car models trends, Chevrolet took spots 1, 2, 4 and 8. The top two spots belonged to the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado at 1 and 2 respectively. Spot No. 4 belonged to the new 2016 Camaro, while Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year the 2016 Colorado held the eighth position.

The only other brand to come close to Chevrolet’s four in Google’s Top 10 was FCA with two. With the new advances and variety available for 2015 for Chevrolet fans in St. Louis and across the country, it was only apt that Chevrolet turned up for so many searches.

“To see Chevrolet on top of trending car and truck model searches for 2015 further emphasizes that the product, design and technologies that make up our vehicles are resonating with consumers,” Paul Edwards, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, said.

A new hybrid variant in 2016 may have helped lead to the amount of searches for the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. General Motors estimates the new 2016 Malibu hybrid to get up to 48 mpg in the city. One of the big additions to many Chevrolet models in 2016 is the addition of Apple CarPlay and eventually Android Auto, and the 2016 Malibu is no exception.

The Camaro and Colorado’s Car of the Year and Truck of the Year from Motor Trend were certainly deserved, and awards such as these probably played a big role in the searches. Naturally, when someone hears about such high profile awards, the research follows. The Silverado is still one of the most popular vehicles period, and it’s no surprise that it would make the list this high up.

Is Your Car Ready for Winter in St. Louis?

Now that the weather is turning colder in the St. Louis area, it's a good time to prepare your car for a long, cold winter. But if you're not the handy type, where do you start?

Mike Simms, service manager at Jim Butler Chevrolet in Fenton, offers tips to keep your car operating safely, so you don't end up on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck.

Jim Butler Winter Car Care Tips:

•    Keep a roadside emergency kit in your trunk. If you get stranded or stuck, you’ll be glad you have these helpful items with you: flashlight, blanket, small shovel, gloves, coolant, window washer fluid.
•     Check your battery. When the temperature drops, so does battery power. And a cold engine needs more battery power to start. That's why older batteries often fail in cold weather. Unless you have a new battery, you should have it tested. Bring your car in and we'll do this for free.
•    Check the antifreeze. Coolant expands when it freezes, and that's bad because it can damage your engine. Make sure you refill with antifreeze that can withstand winter temps. For older cars, we recommend flushing out the old coolant. If you're not sure where to put the coolant, don't take a guess ... just bring your car in and we’ll point it out for you and fill it up for free.
•    Fill up on windshield washer fluid. This is critical if you’re driving in low visibility such as a snowstorm, ice storm or fog. A dirty windshield reduces visibility even more. Check your owner's manual to find out the right type of fluid for your car.
•    Check wipers. Winter is a good time to replace your wipers since we get a fair amount of snow and ice in St. Louis. This should be done every year. If the rubber on the blades are torn, or if the wipers leave streak marks on your windshield, they should definitely be replaced. Stop by our service center if you have any trouble putting on new wipers … we’ll help out free of charge.
•    Inspect your tires. "Bad" tires have worn treads, uneven wear, or degraded rubber.  Cracking or dry rot on the rim is also a bad sign. Worn out tires can't handle slick or icy roads well and that's why its dangerous to drive on old tires.
•    Check your tire pressure. Tire pressure drops when the temperature drops, and having too little air in your tires makes them less able to grip wet or icy roads. Low tire pressure also decreases fuel efficiency and causes the tires to wear out faster. To find the proper pressure for your car, look for the PSI printed on the door jam. Use a tire pressure gauge (we like electronic gauges) to check air pressure and fill as needed.
