2016 Malibu to Shed 300 Pounds, Offer More Leg Room

New Chevy Malibu expected to hit Jim Butler Chevrolet in St. Louis by end of 2015

The next generation of the American icon Chevrolet Malibu will reportedly lose 300 pounds while gaining some interior space according to Automotive News. Jim Butler Chevrolet in St. Louis is excited for the new announced changes and is eager to add the newest edition to our already wide Malibu selection.

From the teaser shot, the 2016 Malibu looks to have a sleeker design and a fastback styling. Chevrolet is expected to fully reveal the ’16 Malibu at the New York International Auto Show in early April.

“The roofline has been stretched rearward, giving a more sleek profile, while the front wheels have moved forward and front and rear overhangs have been reduced," GM global design chief Ed Welburn said. "Along with the sculpted body side, these cues help Malibu appear more dynamic and sophisticated.”

How Malibu Will Lose the Weight
Chevrolet addressed two areas of the previous generation of Malibus — the weight and the rear seat room — with the 2016 model. According to GM,   a lighter high-strength steel structure reduces the vehicle’s weight. This also benefits the fuel economy and handling.

A new vehicle architecture went into the build of the ’16 Malibu. The wheelbase extends nearly four more inches than the previous year which helps create more rear legroom and interior space.
