Chevy Bolt EV Is GM's Testbed For Autonomous Driving

As if the Chevrolet Bolt EV wasn’t impressive enough with its 238-mile range, the vehicle is now the testbed for GM’s autonomous-driving technologies.

Earlier this year, the autonomous Bolt EV prototypes began testing on the public streets of San Francisco and Scottsdale, Arizona. And now, according to a recent announcement made by General Motors, the vehicle will begin testing on the roads of Michigan. The company plans to build this next-generation autonomous Bolt EV at its Orion Assembly Plant.

“Revolutionizing transportation for our customers while improving safety on roads is the goal of our autonomous vehicle technology, and today’s announcement gets us one step closer to making this vision a reality,” stated GM CEO Mary Barra. “Our autonomous technology will be reliable and safe, as customers have come to expect from any of our vehicles.”

Because safety is a top priority, safety engineers will be behind the wheel of the first autonomous Bolt EV prototypes and ready to take over in the case of an emergency.

The future is looking pretty awesome, if you ask us! Though you can’t quite yet get your hands on the autonomous version, you can stop in and see us at Jim Butler Chevrolet in St. Louis, MO to check out the 2017 Bolt EV all-electric vehicle!
