So Cool: Active Phone Cooling Adds to 2016 Chevrolet Models’ Smartphone Integration

Latest Advancements in Impala, Volt, Malibu, Cruze Help Combat Overheating Smartphones

Overheating Smartphones is a problem that is reoccurring more and more often these days. This can cause large inconveniences for travelers who rely on their smartphones for phone calls, streaming music or navigation. The newest technology from Chevrolet and its 2016 models look to help
smartphone users and their overheating problems.

While occasional smartphone overheating is normal, the overheating can cause negative effects such as low battery life and slow processing speeds.

To help aid these inconveniences, several new Chevrolet models, including the 2016 Malibu and Impala, will be equipped with industry-first technology that will cool your smartphone — just another advancing step forward towards Chevrolet’s smartphone integration.

Active Phone Cooling and how it works

Chevrolet has created a system called Active Phone Cooling. Inside the wireless charging bin, there will be an air vent connected to the car’s air conditioning and ventilation system that will easily cool the phone. Active Phone Cooling operates only when the HVAC system is turned on by the driver.

Overheating can be because by many factors such as heavy strain on the device’s data and graphics processors, high ambient temperatures or simply charging the device. Couple this with hot temperatures inside the car on a very warm day, and overheating can occur even easier.

Chevrolet models expected to have the Active Phone Cooling features currently include the 2016 Impala, Cruze, Volt and Malibu. Now, customers can enjoy the convenience of cool air being sent right to where their phone will already be charging.

"Over time, regular overheating can do permanent damage to the lithium ion batteries that power our smartphones,” Jeffrey Van Camp, deputy editor of Digital Trends, said. “I always recommend keeping your phone in a cool, ventilated place, where it can stay at a comfortable room temperature, whether it's charging or discharging.”

Chevrolet is the only automotive manufacturer that offers a similar solution for in-vehicle smartphone cooling, so keep your smartphone protected with your 2016 Chevrolet models.
